LeBron James recently took to Instagram to reveal the official logo and title of the upcoming Space Jam sequel. Confirming the titled as Space Jam: A New Legacy, the basketball superstar and starring cast member revealed a fresh look at the logo via a short five-second video.
The sequel to the Michael Jordan-featuring 1996 classic has been a passion project for James since becoming attached to the project in 2014. The sequel is expected to continue its fun-filled blend of live-action and classic cartoon animation, with the basketball star and his Looney Tunes co-stars appearing on screen alongside Anthony Davis, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, and more. Other people that will appear include WNBA stars Diana Taurasi, Cheney Ogwumike, and Nneka Ogwumike, with actors Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green adding to the star-studded lineup.
LeBron recently joined the Road Trippin’ podcast last month to speak on the film and its production amid the coronavirus pandemic:
Space Jam has always been scheduled to come out in June of 2021, so we’re kind of ok. And a lot of it right now is animation, so being indoors is actually great for us. So we’re still on. Just like everything in the world, everything is slowed down a little bit, but we’re still on target. I’m looking forward to it. During this time right now, I wish we could release it right now, man, and give people some things to watch in their households. But we got until next year, next summer. We’re excited about it.
Space Jam: A New Legacy is expected to arrive in June of 2021.
